The English String Quartet surrounded by some of their friends

News

Dear Friends,

It is with great regret I have to tell you that we have decided the London Festival of Chamber Music should not continue. As you know, Luciano, our Artistic Director, has been having great problems with his shoulders, and - as ever - we are experiencing difficulty in raising enough sponsorship to underwrite the concerts. We don't want to risk lowering standards in any way, so felt it best to call a complete halt now.

I would like to thank you most sincerely for all the support you have given us and all the enthusiasm you have brought to the Festival over the years. Like me I am sure you will treasure the memory of many remarkable concerts we heard during the Festival's 13-year existence and also I hope will have had your musical horizons broadened by the imaginative programming. This is the Festival's true legacy and I am happy that you share it with us.

With all good wishes,

Rachel Douglas, Chair of Trustees

About the Festival

The London Festival of Chamber Music, founded in 1995 by Luciano Iorio, violist of the English String Quartet, aims to make chamber music more accessible, with performances of the highest standard at venues near where people live, stimulating programmes, informative and friendly presentation and affordable tickets. Free tickets are offered to local primary and secondary schools.

Every year the four weeks long Festival gives sixteen concerts in four venues, with four programmes performed in each venue. The performers are among the finest musicians in London: the members of the internationally renowned English String Quartet are ‘artists in residence’, and they are joined by other eminent musicians according to the requirements of the programmes.

The Festival also gives a free educational programme to primary schools, aiming at inspiring school children and nurturing tomorrow's audience.
